What are my options in marrying a divorced Lutheran?

I am Catholic and my first marriage was annulled 15 years ago.
I would like to be remarried to a baptized Lutheran who was married in the Luthern church but has been divorced for 20 years. He does not see why his first marriage needs to be annulled in the Catholic church. We have discussed this mulitple times and attended a Catholic church session on the short version of the annulment process. He still will not participate in the annulment process. What are my options?

Hi,

In Mark 10:9 Jesus was quite specific about the indissoluablity fo marriage. “Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.” No human can disolve a valid marriage. You just can’t be married to two people at the same time. The Catholic Church still takes Jesus at His word.

An annulment, on the other hand, proves that an essential element to the marriage was missing at the time the committment was made. Sometimes such cannot be proven and an annulment is not grated. This is real life we’re dealing with here. It has eternal consequences.

If he refuses to take such consequences into account, then you need to find someone who does. You are in my prayers.
