The superintendent @ MCI Shirley, Mass. has banned the practice of Extraordinary ministers among the inmates stating they are “unnecessary”. The local pastor does not support “prison ministry” and will not intercede. The men have appealed to the Archdiocese which has not received a definitive answer from the DOC. The Deacon is less than supportive. There are men unable to attend services; confined to hospital, isolation, etc; thus being denied their right to practice their faith. What are the specific rules for appointment and practice of Extraordinary ministers in such an unusual situation? On behalf of Catholic inmates, THANK YOU for your help!
