Hello all! I’m not the best at praying in the morning, as I am somewhat lazy and I try to soak up every minute of sleep I can get before heading to work. But I really need to take more time to pray.

I have a few prayers I like to say in the morning, but it’s not that many. I want to start off my day the best I can, with offering up my day and all my works to Him! I also like to say a prayer of protection, and a chaplet or rosary on my drive to work.

What are some good powerful Catholic prayers to say to start off the day right??

As my feet hit the floor, “O God, come to my assistance; O Lord, make haste to help me.”

I just wrote that on a bit of index card and stuck it to the top of my medicine bottle. I take it before I get up.

Now I’m going to look for more things to glue onto it. I may end up needing a bigger bottle!

My very first prayer of the day for me is one I made up so that I might gain Indulgences to offer up to the Poor Souls in Purgatory later in the day. We get partial indulgences for lots of things, such as making the sign of the cross. My problem is I often forget to ask for them. I’m hoping this short prayer covers that.

Prayer for Indulgences

Almighty Father, I humbly beseech Thee,
that through Thy abundant grace, I might
gain all the Indulgences which I merit
throughout this day.
Amen.

I have this one in my morning line up, too. Not sure who gets credit for it.

Morning Prayer

My God, I thank You for protecting me through
the night. I praise You and give You thanks for all
the blessings You have bestowed on me. In union
with Jesus, I consecrate to You all my thoughts,
words, actions, joys, and sufferings of this day.
Mary, my mother, bless me this day and protect
me from dangers. My Guardian Angel and all my
patron saints, pray for me.
Amen.

My hand missal has an entire section for morning devotions and if prayed in its entirety it takes about 20 min. If I don’t have time for that I’ll at a minimum pray the Opening Prayer and the Morning Offering:
Opening Prayer

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

Blessed be the holy and undivided Trinity, now and for evermore. Amen.

O Great God, the sovereign Lord of heaven and earth, I prostrate myself before Thee. With all the Angels and Saints I adore Thee, I acknowledge Thee to be my Creator and sovereign Lord, my first beginning and last end. I render to Thee the homage of my being and life. I submit myself to Thy holy will, and I devote myself to Thy divine service this day and for ever.

Morning Offering

O, My Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary I offer Thee my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of Thy Sacred Heart: the salvation of souls, reparation of sin, and the reunion of all Christians. I offer them for the intentions of our bishops and all the apostles of prayer, and in particular those recommended by our Holy Father this month. Amen.
Depending on how much more time I have I’ll add in more of the prayers, all of which are standard prayers found elsewhere: a few Hail Marys, the Lord’s Prayer, the Apostle’s Creed, The Acts of Faith, Hope, Charity, and Adoration, The Litany of the Holy Name, and The hymn from the breviary Iam Lucis Orto Sidere.

I also pray the Angelus in the morning since I wake up a bit before 6AM. That takes but 2 minutes.

My alarm goes off at 6 am which is Angelus time, so I usually say that.

If I remember, I also say something like “Lord, Bless this day, make it productive, help me today.”

I have a longer daily offering that I say along the lines of a morning offering, but I found that works best to say when I get into the car. I’m not awake enough to say it when I first wake up. I typically get in the car at least once a day but it’s not always in the morning. The first time I get in the car on any day, I recite a travel prayer, three Angelus Dei, a short prayer to St Michael, a “morning offering” type prayer, a short renewal of Marian consecration, three Hail Marys, three “O Mary Conceived without Sin…” and a short prayer to Jesus to spare me and my loved ones from Purgatory. This only takes about 5-7 minutes to do from memory, and can all be finished on one drive to the convenience store or to church for Mass which is about a 5-10 minute drive depending on traffic. On the rare days I don’t drive anywhere because I’m sick or there’s a ton of ice and snow, I will say the prayers in the evening in my home.

This is an Orthodox morning prayer and as a Byzantine Catholic I pray this every morning. It is a wonderful prayer to start of the day!

The Morning Prayer of Metropolitan Philaret of Moscow:

O Lord,
grant that I may meet the coming day in peace.
Help me in all things
to rely upon Thy Holy Will.
In every hour of the day,
reveal Thy will to me.
Bless my dealings with all who surround me.
Teach me to treat all that comes to me
throughout the day with peace of soul,
and with the firm conviction that Thy will governs all.
In all my deeds and words,
guide my thoughts and feelings.
In unforeseen events, let me not forget
that all are sent by Thee.
Teach me to act firmly and wisely,
without embittering and embarrassing others.
Give me the strength to bear the fatigue
of the coming day with all that it shall bring.
Direct my will.
Teach me to pray.
Pray Thou Thyself in me.
Amen.

I’m a big fan of the daily prayers in Saint Augustine’s Prayer Book, an Anglo-Catholic prayer book (in which I think Catholics would find little, if anything, objectionable).

This is what I do. I pray for about an hour each morning, but it is my major prayer time during the day.

Morning Offering
Morning Prayer from Liturgy of the Hours
Lexio Divina for the day’s Gospel
The Rosary–or at least part of it, to be completed later
A prayer to St. Joseph and my Guardian Angel for help throughout the day
A prayer for the souls in Purgatory

On rising from your bed say…

In the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ crucified, I arise. May He bless, govern, and preserve me, and bring me to everlasting life. Amen.

Then kneeling down say…

Free my mind, O Lord, from all distracting thoughts, and enable me to pray at all times with attention and devotion so that I may deserve to be heard by Thee. I offer Thee my prayers in union with that divine intention with which, Thou Thyself, while on earth, didst render praises to God.

Then prayers of adoration and thanksgiving followed by the Morning Offering.

Taken from a great little prayer book called Blessed Be God.

If you have a breviary, pray Matins and Lauds for the day.

If not (or additionally), pray the Angelus (customarily said at 6 am, noon, and 6 pm):

. The Angel of the LORD declared unto Mary,
. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace; the LORD is with thee: blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.* Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

. Behold the handmaid of the LORD.
. Be it done unto me according to thy word.

Hail Mary, full of grace; the LORD is with thee: blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.* Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

. And the Word was made flesh.
. And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary, full of grace; the LORD is with thee: blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.* Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
. That we might be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray,
Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O LORD, Thy grace into our hearts; that, we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection. Through the same Christ our Lord.

. Amen.

. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit .
. As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be world without end Amen.

I think about the blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ being spilled on my behalf.

I worship Jesus in this context.

Then I say . . . .

Two Our Fathers
Two Hail Marys . . . and
Two Glory Be’s.

God bless.
