what are some things you do to evangelize? like at school, or the workplace

do you just bring up your faith and hope the other people are interested? do you invite people to go to church events with you? anything else? what if it’s someone you just randomly meet on transit?

and have you had any success? has anyone actually joined the church because of you?

any help would be appreciated since I’m not sure how to go about the whole thing.

I can only recommend you to pray as hard as you can to be guided by the Holy Spirits to testify for Jesus Christ and Holy Mother Mary in many different situations and environments. If I know what I am going to do exactly then I just read new book “Inside the Legion of Mary” by Rev Francis Peffley before I heading out. The guidance for me seems the simple approach and very short but a lot of face meetings with all strangers.

I hope you would find the best answer from the Holy Spirits for the places and people you chose for the evangelization.

God bless.

I run a website geared towards Catholic evangelism and catechesis at: www.logosensarkos.com . Check it out. It’s got free downloadable material that has proven useful in such settings as RCIA and adult education classes, including some interesting videos.

I am quite bad at evangelising but lately I have been feeling more confident in mentioning my faith to people who are not religious. (I’m quite comfortable bringing it up with people who practice some kind of religion.)

So many people are quite prejudiced against us. Too many times I have heard Christians being called “Jesus freaks” who hate science, are phobic of this and that, and such nonsense.
To show them that I am a normal person who is educated, has a range of interests, and who is not afraid of the world and all its diversity is maybe the best I can do. No idea if this has had any impact, but I guess it counts as planting a seed.

By sharing my life as a Catholic, especially when I was introduced to a deeper encounter with Christ I found that this had an impact on those who received my testimony. I can in an interior way be sensitive to the Holy Spirits work. I found that one reaction from others was to bring them closer to their faith, and God. It is said by some that we can not judge the results of our efforts, and shouldn’t expect to see them. I have never had the consolation of seeing a complete conversion as a result of my efforts. But I do know that it is left up to God alone. So I make peace with myself knowing that I did the best I could. I have been blessed to see the Holy Spirits work in many ways. As much as I would like to see people coming to Christ, with Jesus using me as an instrument, I leave that up to God. I seem to be directed to people on an individual basis., people really hurting or people already involved in their faith
Recently I gave testimony to devout Jehovah Witness who visited me often trying to convert me. I found that when I witnessed to my own Faith that the Holy Spirit’ actions to me became apparent, when I quoted scripture, the Witness would open to a confirming reading. Since I made my grand witness, she never came back. I guess it gave her a lot of things to think about. There are so many good people of different faiths that I wish could share the richness we have in ours so that their faith could be complete. But we need the power of the Holy Spirit, the Charisms can supply that, they don’t sanctify, but they do draw people closer to the Faith

As you develop relationships, you share your beliefs. Sometimes people will ask deeper questions and sometimes you can challenge their beliefs. Yes, we have brought a lapsed Catholic who no longer believed in anything back into full communion. We have been surprised how many of our acquaintances are ‘former’ Catholics.

Some easy things:
  1. I keep a Sacred Heart prayer card taped to my screen at work, that prompts questions.
  2. When I meet new people I ask them where they go to church (among other things).
  3. If I have to sit in a waiting room (DMV, doctor’s office, etc.) I bring my Bible to read.

I try to do the St. Francis thing. This might be a slight misquote, but “Preach the Gospel always; use words if necessary.”

If you want to make a difference, a real difference, then read the bible. Look at the words that Jesus said and Just believe what he says. If there’s stuff you don’t understand leave that bit for later. The Holy Spirit will give you understanding when you are ready. Trust in Jesus and start doing what he says you will do.

Ask for things in his name. That’s where the real power is. In his name. Lay hands on the sick and command their bodies to be healed in Jesus name. Jesus said you (the one who believes in me) will lay hands on the sick and they will recover. Keep doing it untill it works then don’t ever stop. There’s no better way to evangelise. It’s what Jesus did and it’s what he had the apostles do.

We brought a Baptist couple to Mass with us today, and explained to them scripturally what was going on. As I like to say: “Preach the gospel at all times; use words.”
