I was raised Protestant, but never found much substance to it and have drifted away from church (but thankfully not faith). However, I feel that I need to find a church in which I belong, and have always been attracted to Catholicism.
I only have one close Catholic acquaintance and he suggested I attend Mass, however it is unlikely I could attend with him. So, that is my problem: while I understand the idea behind it, I am unfamiliar with the specifics of the ceremony. I would love to attend, but I would not want to be disruptive or do anything inappropriate and, frankly, I embarrass easily.
Can you tell me what I might expect at Mass, and what it is appropriate for visitors to do, especially with regards to Communion (I know that non-Catholics are not supposed to receive Communion, but what are we meant to do at that point in the ceremony)? In what other ways is my participation appropriate or inappropriate?
