What are the reasons why Born-again and Fundamentalist Christians hate Catholics(Poll)

There wasn’t an option for just ignorant or misinformed. Most Protestants I know really don’t know much about the RCC one way or the other. Some others I know have just heard it is “bad” but don’t know why. I picked the theology one but I would just say largely uninformed is the more accurate reason in my experience.
 
I would have to agree with this statement regarding being ignorant or misinformed. I was in their shoes at one time when I belonged to the church my parents created which was located downtown where the insurance company used to be.
Most members at their church would be open to hearing what a Catholic has to say, then they would open the Bible and read until they find a verse to misinterpret in order to disprove Catholics.

When the woman I would eventually marry asked me what I have against Catholicism, I realized I didn’t really know much about it. At least not from my own research.
 
Martin Luther was even invited to Rome to speak about his issues.

But then he destroyed the Papal Bull in public, went out without authority, taught false teachings, etc.

We then affirmed Catholic teaching but reinforced better teaching of priests, etc.

Couldn’t agree more. And two other things to consider. As a certain conservative radio host says, “follow the money.” So many of these preachers in their (mostly) fundamental/Pentecostal churches rely for their salary the 10% tithe from the congregation. Are they going to preach the truth and lose congregants to "the Whore of Babylon: (their words) thus reducing the weekly take?
As to our reaction. Well, just remember the worst kind of salesman selling the worst kind of product, always makes his sales pitch by telling what’s wrong with the other guy’s product. Recognize him for what he truly is.
 
I know in Ireland - there was plenty of hatred - at one time.
Not sure if it still exist -
Someone said only 20 % of Catholics attend church.

How much time do fundamental/pentecostal churches really spend on rants of ugliness against the Catholic Church( or any other groups else outside their fold for that matter)?

I take it that you don’t see these people as sincere in their beliefs- how did you come to this conclusion.

Lastly, all religious groups without exception rely on contributions to pay the cost of maintaining their facilities as well as their salaries. It is not just “many” of them, and its not limited to just fundamentalist/pentecostals.
 
I find anyone who thinks that way is a closed mind.

Pray for lukewarm and non practising Catholics to come home.

I am female.

This poll isn’t about evangelism or conversion.
It’s about why people hate Catholics.
It omits the prime reason in my country- Historic sex abuse and the Church’s inability to mitigate it.

If I am going to speak to someone about God and the Catholic Church, I am certainly not going to engage in a debate. There are only losers in a debate.

If I am going to talk about God in the Catholic Church, I am going to listen and have a discussion. One concept at a time.

Listening is the most important skill we can have in representing our Church.
If someone threw one of these accusations in the poll at me, I would simply say, I will pray for you, be nice, and move on to find common ground in another topic. Judging bulls, the best milking machines, coloured wool contaminating the clip.

We must establish trust and companionship in fellow man, a mateship, before our words are really listened to in the face of hate.

It’s best not to lump born-again Christians with Fundamentalists. There are overlaps but not all born-again Christians hate Catholics or even Catholic theology nor do many think the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon. The common view I’ve encountered is ‘Catholics are great people and can be great Christians but their theology is wrong’.

This raises an interesting point. Is the OP referring to Catholic people or Catholic theology? And ‘hate’ is strong. There are definitely those who do hate but today many people use ‘hate’ for even merely disagree.

Catholics do not worship Mary or anyone except God.
We revere her as the mother of Christ and ask her to pray for us,
Purgatory is not a second chance it is the consequence of sins which have been forgiven,
Once a soul is in hell it can not regain heaven.
 
How about none of the above? Misinformation and understanding is the reason. As a former Baptist, I followed the faith which I was born into. This is what I was taught. The Holy Spirit led me to the Church and Truth. Plain and simple.

I am a born again Christian and I do not hate Catholics. I was raised to treat all faiths with respect.

I’ve been considering going back to RICA, I started once before but had to drop out due to serious illness, in order to learn more about the Catholic faith.
 
In my experience a great many people are anti-Catholic because they were raised in an anti-Catholic atmosphere. It is often an unconscious anti-Catholicism. They don’t think of themselves as anti-Catholic, they think that they are seeing things just the way they are. Most of them are ahistorical. If they know of Christian history, which is mostly Catholic history, they only know the bad parts which put the Church in a bad light. They believe the bible alone is their guide even while depending on the Catholic Church to hand down the bible. In some respects, anti-Catholicism is a large part of their received tradition.

I hesitate to even argue with relatives or others who think like that because to correct all their misconceptions would take a lecture series.
 
Probably not as many and I envision, and more than those apologists for the Jimmy Swaggarts and Joel Osteens fo the world admit to. And there are more who “theology” is affected by the dollar.
My point though wasn’t to disparage individuals but rather to question the objectivity of “teaching” vis a vis the RCC when profit is a factor in their public and private stances.
And yes, I have met and admire some very good Pentecostal and fundamentalist Protestant preachers.

Because nothing bolsters your people and gets converts like labeling another group as the “other”.

Tribalism is alive and well.
