What precisely are the rules concerning receiving Holy Communion more than once a day?

My particular motive in asking is that I’ll be attending a wedding with a Mass on January 1. I’d like to go to Mass earlier in the day as well for the feast of Mary, the Mother of God. My understanding is that in such a case, I may indeed receive Communion at both Masses.

But I thought a general explanation would be helpful for me in the future and for others who frequent these forums as well.

Thanks!
