My favorite religious song ’ O Holy Night ’ Non religious Happy Christmas-John Lennon

Adeste Fideles,
O Holy Night,
Silent Night.

Secular
Deck us all with Boston Charlie,
Chestnuts Roasting on an open fire (Christmas Song)

Since I can’t stand the vast majority of Christmas music since they start playing it before October is over, I tend to like Christmas music more like this.
that being said, there are a lot of good hymns sung in church on Christmas Day.

O Holy Night - Either Nat King Cole, Josh Groban, or Luciano Pavarotti.
Go Tell It One The Mountain - Found a wonderful version done by Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby

In the Basilica Mass at Midnight where I attend, after the Communion Hymn, the celebrant (the Archabbot) is seated, the lights are turned almost off and the entire congregations sings Silent Night. It is truly moving, 900 people actually singing a hymn. My favorite music ever in Church.

And by the way, on Nat King Cole’s Christmas album, there is a song, “A Mother Tonight is Rocking a Cradle in Bethlehem.” It is a beautiful song done with wonderful backup singers. See if you can find it.

Religiuos-The First Noel
Secular- Grandma got run over by a reindeer

Well, I’m sure that you know of the song even if you haven’t heard it, Grandpa got run over by a John Deere. If you don’t, it’s worth a listen, if nothing else but the novelty.

“O Holy Night”, “O Little Town of Bethlehem”, “Silent Night”, “Good Christian Men, Rejoice”, and “What Child is This?” are my favorite religious songs.

My favorite secular songs are, “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire”, “A-Soalin’” by Peter, Paul, and Mary, “The Christmas Can-Can” by Straight No Chaser, "The 12 Days of Christmas by John Denver and the Muppets, “Christmas Cookies” by George Strait, and (in complete agreement with CajunJoy, “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Vince Vance and the Valiants, and my favorite when I was a kid, “Snoopy’s Christmas” by The Royal Guardsmen.

And a regional favorite, “Christmas in New Mexico” by Jerry Dean!

I included some links to the secular ones. Enjoy!

It’s not Christmas to me until I’ve belted out “O Come All Ye Faithful” at Christmas Mass. 🙂

Favorite secular Christmas song … not sure … maybe “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree”.

One year for Christmas, my friend Jamie got me a CD that was Twisted Sister singing Christmas songs. Honestly, it’s not that bad. The version of O Come All Ye Faithful is actually very good. I know not Everyone likes that type of music, but if you do, it’s worth checking out.

I listened to your video, how I ever missed it I’ll never know. I use to listen to the guys on the corners in South Philly, singing such songs at Christmas. Is it appropriate, you bet. It’s funny, and everyone needs to laugh at the way they have turned Christmas into Retail surplus money making etc…and you are correct everthing stats in October. You have a Blessed Christmas and thank you for your posts which are always different ,enjoyable and yes insightful.🦋🦋

Dee Snyder has said in interviews that he lifted the melody from Twisted Sister’s hit song “We’re Not Gonna Take it” from “O Come All Ye Faithful” (Adestes Fideles) 😄

Two more recent favorites of mine were both movingly sung by the Harry Simeone Chorale, “The Little Drummer Boy” and “Do You Hear What I Hear”

Adam: Did check it out on You Tube. If you like Twisted Sister, I agree, it’s not bad, but as a steady diet of carols during the holiday season, I’ll pass. Then again, I do prefer TS over Bruce Springsteen singing any Christmas Carol. That man should not be allowed near a recording studio during the holidays. He just does not have a voice for carols.

Religious: O Come All Ye Faithful. I love belting this out as the opening hymn at Midnight Mass (or whatever time I fulfill my Christmas obligation). It’s almost to the point where it doesn’t feel like Christmas if a different opening hymn is chosen (or there is none, as happened at a Latin Midnight Mass I attended one year).

Secular: Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree. I attend swing dance class at the local Elks club on Tuesday night, and last night we used this song for our warm-up.

In the Bleak Midwinter
While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks
Good Christian Men Rejoice
Go Tell It On the Mountain

Too many to name. But my fav (secular) Christmas album is “December” by the Moody Blues.😍:hugs:

I agree one of the best albums out there. My favorite song is ’ in the Quiet f Christmas Morning.’ A Blessed Christmas to you` and Yours.

🦋🦋

I love “When A Child Is Born” and “The Spirit of Christmas.” Knowing what inspired the latter really brings it home for me. And I tear up every time I hear it.

I have many favorites, too.

Here are two of mine:

This Christmastide, by Donald Fraser, and then Night of Silence, Silent Night.

One year the choir that I was in sang Night of Silence, Silent Night. It’s a really beautiful piece of music.

Here are some YouTube videos of these pieces, if anyone would like to see them:

Here is Silent Night, Night of Silence:
