This Sunday I went to mass at a different parish than I usually go to. It was the priest’s first mass after being ordained, and since it happened to be Pentecost as well, I thought that was pretty cool. Afterward, the ladies I went with to mass insisted that I go with them to be blessed by the priest after his first mass.
So I stood in queue for this blessing. It was a long line, so the blessing must have been as special as the ladies insisted. After I returned home and told some other Catholics, they confirmed the blessing was very special.
The blessing was spoken in Latin, and outside of the mass I don’t understand much Latin! What makes the blessing after a priest’s first mass special, and what is the English translation of what he said?
