New to this thread, but it looks very interesting…

Right now I’m reading “Nearer, My God” by Wm. F. Buckley, Jr.

“The Practice of the Presence of God.” It’s letters and other writings by Brother Lawrence, a 16th-century French monk. Most of it is expressing his happiness about God, serving God, wondering why he’s worthy, etc.

I’m happy he’s so happy, is my reaction. It is short and easy to read, if a little repetitive.

I just picked up Anathem by Neal Stephenson (yeah, I’m a nerd). The only reason I’m not reading it this minute is that the thing is so HEAVY! I mean, it weighs a LOT! Reading this one in bed could lead to suffocation or organ damage, I fear. :o

That was how it was whenever I read George R. R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire books. Good stuff, though.👍

Anthem by Ayn Rand. I find her Objectivism abhorrent but she is one of my favorite authors. Go figure.

Just ordered it. “What Jesus Saw From the Cross”. It had great reviews–has anyone read this one?

I have! I really, really liked it. It was quite beautiful and moving. I don’t know quite how to describe it… Fr. Sertillanges uses his familiarity with Scripture and with the geography of the land to give a beautiful visual image. It’s one of my favorites for Lent.

I’m currently reading our Papa’s Jesus of Nazareth… extraordinary! It was coincidence that I picked it up while in the midst of reading the Bible straight through for the first time, but it couldn’t have worked better. Reading it alongside Scripture really adds to its force, and vice versa.

Currently reading “World Without End” by Ken Fowlett. It’s basically a soap opera in a 14th century backdrop. It’s interesting though as you really get a feel for everyday life during this time in history.

Go Johnny, Go!!!

I am nearly done with “Kindness& Compassion” by Bruce Becker… about the Nickel Mines Amish school shooting and it’s aftermath. He did a painting of an Amish school bell not knowing what was happening . It’s a really emotional book.

I have three books that I am reading right now…

A New Earth, An Old Deception: Awakening to the Dangers of Eckhart Tolle’s #1 Bestseller by Richard Abanes

Surprised by Hope: Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection, and the Mission of the Church by N. T. Wright

A Hunger for Healing: The Twelve Steps as a Classic Model for Christian Spiritual Growth by J. Keith Miller

I am going to start: “The Virgin Mary and Theology Of The Body” by Donald Calloway.

I’m reading The Year of Living Biblically, by A.J. Jacobs.

It is a very readable and often hilariously funny autobiographical story of an agnostic Jewish writer who decides that, for the sake of his young son, he should investigate religion. He does so by trying to live the Old Testament teachings, as literally as possible, for a year. I’m halfway through and find it delightful. I also suspect that he will have arrived at a new appreciation for - and, I hope, belief in - the God of his forefathers.
