Hi,

I am in correspondence with a man who is very intelligent; is a Christian who is struggling with doctrines such as the Trinity; has expressed his struggles and reservations concerning the Christian faith, and seems to be searching for more than his Evangelical background has given him. I recommended the Catechism to him. Is there anything else I should recommend to him? Any books that intelligently and convincingly show the depth and truth of the Catholic faith in a way that makes it attractive, and especially ones addressing the Trinity? Need some profound writings that show off the wisdom of the Catholic Church in the hope of pointing to its authority…

Here is a book I have that I know talks about the subject of the trinity but I’m not sure if it is a good intro book for an evangelical though like many apologetics books.

The One Thing is Three: How the Most Holy Trinity Explains Everything by Michael Gaitley
amazon.com/gp/aw/d/159614260X?pc_redir=1399174671&robot_redir=1

He is a wonderful author but I’m just not sure if it’s more of a theological based argument.

God bless!

Don’t know if this is too deep, but how about the section of St. Thomas Aquinas’ Summa Theologiae that explains the Trinity?

Try the Catechism of the Catholic Church as a starting place.

The Catholic Encyclopedia

(It contains many further references.)

If he’s up for a philosophical treatment, Gilles Emery’s The Trinity: An Introduction to Catholic Doctrine on the Triune God (Thomistic Ressourcement Series) may be to his liking.

George Weigel’s The Truth of Catholicism also has a short section and so does The Catholicism Answer Book, by Rev. John Trigilio Jr., PhD, ThD and Rev. Kenneth Brighenti, PhD.

Thank you all for your responses. So far I’ve given him the section in the Catechism on the Trinity along with a book.
