Hello everyone,
Have you ever been away from the Church for a while?, not really lapsed but indifferent?. I have, I went through a period of doubt that lasted on and off for nearly 2 years. I would go a week, miss a week, and if any of my family did not want to go then I would not make the effort, which was totally wrong. And after a while it became easier to do this.
Well, one day searching on youtube for a movie I had seen long ago I got the wake up call I needed!!. The movie was called “The Devil’s playground” a Fred. Schepisi directed it in 1976. It is set in a Catholic school in Australia, in it is a scene called “The Hell sermon” it hit me like a thunderbolt and after viewing it a few times I saw my priest, made a general confession and I have not missed Mass since. In fact it has if anything made me a better Catholic, even my family say so, I cannot give you a link to it as I am not that computer literate yet (one day maybe), you can still probably find it on you tube if you look for it , it is well worth a look!!. Hope this helps someone as it did me, truly, God Works in mysterious ways!!.
God Bless,
Mick.👍

Now that you are back, love God for being God and King, not for what He gives you. 🙂

Hello again,
Eucharisted, I will, thank you for your replies, I would also like to thank in advance any future replies.
God Bless,
Mick. 👍

Our Lady brought me to my senses. It was through Her intercession, that I returned to our Catholic Faith… after a 10 year absence. I will never leave “Home” again.

Holy Mother of God… pray for us. :gopray:

I was away from the church for about 6-7 years during college and my first year of marriage.

I am not sure what woke me up or brought me to my senses - one day I just knew that I had to come back. I have been back in full force ever since. 😃

I will say - coming back has not been easy…at all. But I rejoice everyday for the faith that God has given me.

Sometimes I wish that more homilies were delivered like this. It might “scare the hell” out of some of our youth.

We, in North America, have been inundated with prosperity, ushy gushy love, and forget that Agape love is so much more than that.

For me, what brought me home was the Eucharist! 👍

in Christ

What brought me to my senses was 9-11. Even though I was far away from Ground Zero, the security that I had always felt took a big hit that day. We were very lax Catholics, going to Mass whenever we felt like it - every few months or so. My family was in church the next weekend, and has been with rare exception ever since. I realized that if planes had hit the building that I was in that day, my final destination would NOT have been what I desired. It took me a few months before I made my way back to confession, but that was a wonderful experience.

I can’t imagine ever leaving again. I feel like I’ve found many wonderful treasures.

The impending birth of my son was what brought me back, just last year. The gift of life is truly God’s greatest miracle.

“The HELL Sermon”.
Sounds like what one could expect from our dear old monsignor after he had heard your confession and before absloution. People would leave his confessional quaking, but I’ll bet they thought twice before committing another sin :signofcross:
