Friends,
I saw an image of St. Veronica on a holy card and it intrigued me. she was holding a piece of something with Jesus’ face on it.
what can you tell me about her or where can I get info?
Thanks,
eli

Have you ever prayed the Stations of the Cross? It is a way to meditate on the path Jesus took to Calvary to die for our sins. Many Catholics pray the Stations of the Cross during Lent (the season of approximately 40 days preceding Easter).

Most Catholic churches have carved pictures of the fourteen Stations of the Cross on the walls (often seven on each side of the church). If your church has them, look at the 6th Station (VI in Roman numerals). You will see Veronica wiping the face of Jesus. Tradition has it that this holy woman offered this small act of kindness — wiping His blood- and sweat-streaked face with her veil — to Jesus as He carried the Cross.

She reminds us that every act of kindness we offer to another person is really an act of kindness for Jesus.

The name Veronica comes from “vera icona”–true image.

According to tradition, she is the woman with the issue of blood (aka the Hemorissa) whom Jesus healed.

Eusebius describes a statue of this event she had made, with the inscription, “To the Savior, the Deliverer.”

The story I heard years ago, is that when Veronica wiped Jesus face on the way to Calvary, an image of Christ’s face remained on her veil/cloth.

Unlike the shroud of Turin, no such cloth has ever been discovered.

Thanks very much. I have learned alot and will keep it going. She represents something truly beautiful. We should all be as kind as she.
Blessings,
Eli
