Hello

I have always loved cars my entire life. For anyone else who is interested, here in New Zealand most cars are Japanese but German cars are very common. Very few American cars apart from Australian Fords which are common.

So, what car do you own. In the next year or so, I’m hoping to get my first car. Any recommendations?

Thank you and God Bless.

I’ve been happy with my Toyota Tacoma truck for 11 years. I bought it when I was still doing construction work, but I like having a pickup truck even now. It’s been very reliable.

I have owned the following makes: Chevrolet, VW, and Honda. The most reliable of them has been Honda. Currently I have and Accord. Honda has made three recent changes: CVT, Turbo, and water based paint. From what I read Honda CVT has more repairs than conventional transmission, Turbo high pressure has been causing fuel in the oil (extreme cold weather areas only), and water based paints have more peeling and scratches. However use of the water based paint is across many car makes to reduce VOCs. Toyota and Honda are know to be excellent mechanically.

VW Jetta 50,000 miles so far so good knock on wood. Of all the cars I’ve owned this is my favorite. It just feels solid and safe even at high speeds.

Although I am a New Zealander and my heritage is proudly British, I love big American cars. In New Zealand, Australian made Fords and Holdens are big ‘gas guzzlers’ that are similar in size to a big American car.

An older (huge!) Holden Commodore Station Wagon.

An older Ford Falcon.

Both of these cars were made exclusively for Australia and NZ to substitute for the fact that we don’t have big American cars. Here’s a link to show you how expensive an American car is in NZ: https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/us...tm?rsqid=c911256191924ccfbb597ad2b4eb8a90-001

This 1999 Lincoln Towncar is on sale on a New Zealand car website, for $18,500 NZD. That’s $11,750 USD! So expensive.

Nonetheless, there are a lot of German cars here as well. But mostly Japanese.

My family currently owns a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso, as shown below:

And a Citroen C5, as shown below

Both are French cars and we love them.

2004 Dodge ram 2500 long bed with the Cummins diesel.

Yes, it is bad on fuel.

But I would not trade it for anything.

That’s a big car. In New Zealand, only farmers really have pick up trucks.

How do you secure your luggage on a long trip when it’s raining?

I have a 2006 4-wheel-drive Ford Explorer with 125,000 miles. I have had many kinds of vehicles in my day and this is my favorite of all of them. (I live in a snowy area.)

I have owned four cars, two hand-me-downs from my family, and two I bought myself (though for tax purposes I bought the first two as well, since you can’t give someone a car, it has to cost something–the title application on both says I paid $1 for them). The two hand-me-downs were Nissans. The two I bought myself were a Mitsubishi, bought in a private sale, and a brand new Nissan that I got a few months ago. You can probably tell where I’m going with this. I put over 500,000 miles on the first two put together. Nissans are extremely reliable. That second one hit 273,000 before it died, the transmission went out, but it would’ve rolled 275K if it had made that last trip. Weirdest thing was that we only changed the oil about once or twice a year, so every 12,000-15,000 miles, and it still ran fine.

I drive a gasoline-powered Toyota Yaris. Bought used from a Toyota dealer, its previous owner may have been an elderly fellow, or perhaps someone who had more than one car, because it was three years old at time of purchase but only had 12000km (7500 miles) on it. Sweet 😀

Since then, we’ve chewed up a significant amount of tarmac (I flee travel outside France on a regular basis), but it still runs like a dream. This is my second Toyota, out of four cars in total. The engines are hard to kill, and something like a Yaris is fairly economical to operate and maintain.

Our last car was an Audi. It was fun to drive but the gas alone cost twice as much as we’re spending now for similar mileage. 💸

This must vary state by state. I have given two cars and literally wrote “gift” where the cost was supposed to go on the back of the title. I did not have any issues from the DMV doing this.

Our last pastor had a relatively new Suzuki Vitara and a maybe 10 year old Volkswagen Golf.

My current pastor may have a white Toyota Corolla estate (station wagon).
