He would recognize His church:

The One Holy Christian Church, made up of all Catholics and Protestants.

Of course He would recognise the all the Church buildings in which He physically resides 24/7.

They all belong to the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church!

I think it is worth considering that Jesus was born, lived, and died Jewish. He never renounced his faith, though he did imagine it changed after he was here.

There is only One Church. . It is made up of those who belive Jesus is the Promised One. The historical center of that church (and history does matter) is the city of Rome and therefore the bishop of Rome does have a certain pre-eminence among men. The extent of that pre-eminence is something that will likely be debated until the end of time.

So, what “church” would Jesus recognize? Who would he call his own?

Consider the following from Luke

Then his mother and his brothers 6 came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd. He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you.” He said to them in reply, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.” We are part of Christ’s one true church when we keep his commandments. When we live life as he taught us to live it. This is true for all.

As two great recent popes have emphasised "That which seperates us as believers in Christ is far less than that which unites us.

peace
