Vietnam - somebody told me it was about 7% Catholic out of…about 70 millions people. However, we had many people died for the Catholic faith. There are over 100 canonized Martyers.
I tutored a guy from Vietnam. His English wasn’t that good. He told me that he was persecuted there for being Catholic.

The government is still giving us hard time back there. It was even worsen 10 to 15 years ago. The government’s idea of “Freedom of religion” is this: “you should respect your neighbor’s freedom of religion; thus, you can’t tell him about your belief”… That is the way how they control Christians evangelizing.

I’m not sure if it’s true, but he said that because he was Catholic certain jobs were forbidden to him. Have you heard about this?

That might be true until today, but I could tell you from my own family experiences:
  • my mom lost her job as a teacher.
  • the government gave my sister hard time to go to college. In Vietnam, before and now, students need to take many tests in order to enter a university. My sister passed it, but they didn’t let her in. We finally got someone’s help. This person asked the school system for the reasons. They said it was because my family was Catholic, my father worked for the South Government, and my siblings were refugees in another country.
However, you can always meet a nice person among the bad. The person that finally fought for my sister to attend the university was a Communist who got ranking in the government. He was our neighbor and very nice to everyone - no religion discrimination.

In Mexico, I’d say that it is 90 minus/plus 5 percent of the population … I have read that protestantism has been gaining some ground though …
Hi there,
Just curious to know, what is the percentage of catholics in your home country?

14.6% of the population are christ believers, of which 4.8% are Catholic, the balance 9.8% are Christian

Hm, shall be heading to Sydney for studying in June…Have to look for church that is near to my uni…wondering which demon would that be:D 😃 😃 😃 😃

You did mean to say denom not demon, I hope :bigyikes:

Which Uni are you studying at?? And what denom are you? Maybe I can help!

In my country, Philippines, it’s now 81%. Please note that this used to be 85% we’re loosing 1million each year to other sect/religion.

[from www.infoplease.com
and complete figures are as follows:
Roman Catholic 81%, Evangelical 3%, Iglesia ni Kristo 2%, Aglipayan 2%, other Christian 5%, Islam 5% (2000)]

So sad, but true.

I think Catholics in our country need a stronger Catholic religious education so they will not be easily swayed to believe whatever non-Catholic religions say about our Church without checking the truthfulness of these other churches’ claims.

I was surprised with a friend who actually converted because she was told that “We worship Mama Mary”!----to think she was a former Catholic—and she doesn’t even know the difference between “worshiping” and “honoring”.

I have also friends who left because they chose to marry outside the Church.

Its still a blessing, though, that many Filipino Catholics remain loyal to the Catholic Church and live out their (our) faith. 🙂

**Hi Lily

Opps…hehe…what a typo error…haha. Apparently i’m attending a non-denom church and i’m pretty much open to both charis/traditional churches, as long as it does not take me couple of hours to get for service is OK. I will be going to University of Sydney, so any churches nearby??**

You’d probably like Hillsong Church - they’re very big and pretty well-known. They have a location in Waterloo which isn’t far away from Sydney Uni. Or Christian City Church (CCC) in Surry Hills.

:rotfl:

Am the only one laughing at the name of this organisation? I know alota oldies wouldnt get this.
😃 It cracked me up - the thought of Islamic protesters shouting out “MILF! MILF! MILF!” I’m amazed though it’s taken five days for a comment!

Is Hillsong Church a Latin Rite Catholic Church?

Of course not - happygal isn’t a Latin Rite Catholic, she isn’t looking for a Latin Rite Catholic church to attend. Hillsong and CCC are the two biggest and most popular nondenoms in Sydney.

Mind you, happygal, I can highly recommend St Benedicts’ church in Broadway (a block or so away from Sydney Uni) if you want to check out a Catholic Mass - I go there once or twice a week myself 👍

Hi LilyM

Thks for the information…God Bless

According to Wikipedia:

My home country of Germany:
31.4% or 25,905,000 people as of December 2005
14.2% of German Catholics attended mass on Sundays in 2005 (how do they know that?)

Where I live now, Tennessee:

Roman Catholics 6% (we are few)

(The most popular Protestant denomination is Baptist at 40%)

Mexico is 85-86% Catholic. A few years back it was about 92+%. In the Us I believe it’s in between 22-24%.
