What defines "work" on the Sabbath?

So what am I allowed to do and not allowed to do on the Sabbath? Can I work around the house? Can I work outside? What if my parents ask me to help them work? If I said no, would I be not honoring my parents, and if I said yes, would I be breaking “no work on the Sabbath” commandment? Basically, I’m asking what “work” is defined as through the eyes of the church as it applies to this particular commandment. Any help would be appreciated.
