At my office today we were talking about the canonization of Mother Teresa. Isn’t Mother from Macedonia? Why would her name be Saint Teresa of Calcutta. Is the name of the city/state determined by where they died? Where they’re born? Whee they worked?

God bless and thanks.

Is it the city they were born in, worked in, or died in? The answer is: yes.

The city a saint is known as “St. so-and-so of X” is based on the city where they were renown. Usually that would be the city the saint did the majority of his/her ministry. However there is no hard and fast rule.
