There is a story of a man who would walk into a church every day after work. The Catholic Grout List
I didn’t absorb most of these things even though I’m a cradle Catholic and went to Catholic school for six years, but I embraced most of these as an adult.
ETA: One of the most beautiful witnesses to adoration of the Blessed Sacrament I ever saw was seeing a man standing outside of the parish with his hand touching the wall. I realized that the tabernacle was just inside of that wall. The church was locked and that was as close as the guy could get.
One day the priest asked him what he was doing.
He answered simply, “God looks at me and I look at Him.”
It was an example of contemplative prayer, the highest form of prayer. Every day, the workman just looked at the crucifix and allowed Christ to embrace him. No words needed.
