My 6yo dd asked me this as we reviewed the creation story. Did he sleep? Did he play? Is there anything that anybody has beeen able to figure out about that?

It seems to that the "work"of creation ought to have been fun and not exhausting and He only “rested” to show us tha we need to rest.

For starters, he sustained the universe and maintained its order. Despite popular opinion, the universe does not just “keep itself going”. 😉

I know he keeps things going, but what is His “rest” if He rested on the seventh day he must have done something different or is the answer just: “We don’t know cause He is God and and we are creatures.”.

I understand the text as simply saying that God ceased with the original creation.

He beheld creation and saw that it was good.

Or, Father-and-Son “high five” all day long.

Take your pick.

From a Scott Hahn discussion sevening onself is to convent oneself.

Not sure if I relayed this exactly, but it seems that God “rested” or bound himself to providence of creation.

Have you ever stood on a mountain on a crisp cool day with the sun shining on your face and looked out at “God’s Country”? Maybe thats what He did.🙂

What a great question, and leave it to a 6 year old to ask it. This could be a fun thing for you two to add onto as your child gets older. I mean, none of us will ever know in our lifetimes what God did, but what fun we can have coming up with the different possibilities!
