I thought they acted petulant and immature. They were scowling. I don’t think they scored points for their party.
They looked like sore losers.
A perfect example of why I hope the democrat party soon collapses.

This thread has a few answers to that question:

State of the Union: Glum Democrats sit on hands, walk out and rip President Trump's call for unity World News
State of the Union: Glum Democrats sit on hands, walk out and rip President Trump’s call for unity . . . . Members during the address chose not to stand when Trump honored Louisiana Republican Rep. Steve Scalise and praised his resolve for returning to work less than four months after he “took a bullet” from a gunman and "almost died.” . And they chose not join in the applause for a 12-year-old boy in the gallery whom Trump praised for putting flags on soldiers’ graves on Veterans Day. . . . …

It did not play well on TV - at least from a middle America perspective. Something like 70% of independents approved of the speech - 43% of self declared Democrats liked it. Especially when they play the images over and over, black unemployment down, economic gains, we love our country, law enforcement, God. And Democrats just sitting there so unresponsive, angry and gloomy. There is nothing Trump can do right in their eyes, even and especially when he succeeds or tries to compromise with them. In all fairness, Republicans were disrespectful to Obama, so there is precedence here. But even the GOP applauded SOTU lines about unity, the country, common ground for Obama, as did Democrats to Bush. Not because they liked the President, they just couldn’t afford to come off so surly and inappropriate without harming themselves politically. It felt like the Democrats were really exposing their hatred for Trump and beyond that even, America, its culture, history, identity. Do they just not care anymore? Amazing to watch.

I saw the clips the next day. (Still have the flu so didn’t see it live.) I feel it was in very poor taste. As for Nancy Pelosi’s stone faced expression, don’t get me started on her.

I love Nancy! I’m a Californian and never want to live any place else. And her husband, Paul, is great!

I thought it was status quo for a SoftheU speech. The Dems cheer the Dems and the Repubs cheer the Repubs and neither side cares much about the other side. It’s a time to accentuate the positive and doesn’t really reflect the real state of the union. True for all presidents. Trump went back to being divisive the next day, even with his own party! (The memo, for one thing.)

😳 When I se or hear Nancy Pelosi, it reminds me of everything that is wrong with the Democrats.

Seriously, I am asking you, what is it that you love about her? I actually have to mute the sound when she is on, I find what she says to be inflammatory and untrue.

She and Paul have done so much for Californians. Almost all of us love her - and him! Our lives are better because of them. Of course, California is about the most Democratic state in the union.

That still doesn’t answer my question though. So, what has she done for California? Can you be more specific? I really don’t understand her appeal and I am trying to. She really did come across at the SOTU as a pouting child that found out she was caught in a lie.

I would like to know that also. What have Nancy and Paul done for California?
I would like to know Nancy’s net worth!

This. It happens every year without fail. Republicans also sat when Obama said things they didn’t like, while Democrats stood and cheered. If you want to get them all standing, just mention those serving in the military and everyone will stand. Patriotism overrules partisan politics then.

It may be status quo. But the polite thing to do is at least, look united on both sides. After all, like Trump or not, he is our President.

Btw, I liked Nancy Pelosi too until the day she showed how she really feels about the Catholic Church by receiving Holy Communion when then Pope Benedict XVI was in America. (Kind of an “in your face” attitude.) Sen Ted Kennedy remained seated knowing that his views went against the Church’s. But she went up and received in total defiance of Church teaching. There was an outcry later that her priest and bishop ought to reprimand her and deny her reception of Holy Communion. But as far as I know, she’s still receiving.

I knew she was wealthy, but I didn’t know she had that much money!

How do you know what Ted Kennedy was thinking?

I don’t. But he’d already stated that he would remain seated because his views were in opposition of the Catholic Church’s. And that part of Pope Benedict XVI’s visit was carried by the MSM not just EWTN. (I bought EWTN’s DVDs to get the full coverage.)

Thank you, Lily. That lets us know, more or less, what he was thinking and why he did not take communion. He did the right thing.
