I’m Catholic and I just started reading the Harry Potter series. My mom took my book away and said it’s inappropriate. I don’t understand. It’s not like I’m worshipping the devil. What is wrong with these books and what does our faith think about it?

It is within your mom’s authority to determine what you will be allowed to read. You may present her with evidence that the Harry Potter series is not as bad as she thinks (see link below for information), but I should warn you that smart remarks such as “It’s not like I’m worshipping the devil,” are unlikely to persuade your mom that you are mature enough to read books she believes are not appropriate for you. A respectful, thoughtful presentation of your point of view, along with a gracious acceptance of her authority, are more likely to persuade.
