Hi everyone.
I am a young Catholic trying to live my faith out after years of not really practicing it. I used to be into a secular band and i bought some cd’s, a shirt and a poster. But, that fad went away, and I want nothing to do with it anymore. I just want to get rid of these things, lol. I honestly don’t know why i was even into that, that was i guess my “emo” phase, and that band was secular, so nothing good for my faith now that i realize. Should i throw them away? Or sell them, or give them away? I just don’t want them anymore.

It depends on the message these “secular” things are promoting. If they promote evil behaviour in some way, then get rid of them, by simply dumping them if necessary. If you recycle them, you may encourage somebody else in the same behaviour. You may be out of pocket in doing so, but you’ve already spent the money anyway, so it’s gone regardless of what you do, and you’re unlikely to get much for them even if you sell them.

If on the other hand, they are merely neutral, then you could keep them if you wished. Or give them away or sell them to somebody else if you don’t want them.

It all depends on their content. You’re the best judge of that.

Thank you!
I would take them to a charity shop, but not with the messages they carry. They did have a negative messages about religion, and the singer was an ex-Catholic. I honestly don’t know why I used to like this, but i guess God finally openned up my eyes and showed me to rid of them.

It consists of an Autographed shirt, a poster, and two albums. I wouldn’t want to keep spreading there message, Im supposed to be sharing a good one. So the garbage is a possibility. 😃

It’s great to throw stuff into the garbage like that! We’re not to be attached to or value material things as Catholics.

Just the opposite to the world’s mentality!

And it’s very spiritually healthy to break an attachment by throwing something away.

There are saints who would go on missions to towns and have people gather all their corrupt belongings and junk up for a nice big bonfire! 😃

I also vote for throwing it away. Last Sunday I found a copy of The Secret in the church flea market we were running with my women’s group. The group leader immediately told me to throw it away without hesitation. I love books and felt kinda funny about it but she was completely right! 👍

May I just ask, where the shirt and CDs of your band or someone else’?

If it’s the latter, can I ask what is said band’s name?

Yeah,I think today im just gonna shove them in a bag…Im gonna ask my priest about throwing them away.
No not my band somebody else’s band.

The band is black veil brides…
Not the fact that their secular, just some of their messages are not all that great, haha.

Thank you!

I believe that putting them in the garbage would be the best thing to do, and you will feel much better having done so.

NoGreaterLove, whilst for you Catholics being too attached to your material possessions in this life isn’t good, you can’t go out of your way in order to remove all your material possessions. It’s not healthy, you’re not helping yourself as an individual and pulling off so many sacrifices will NOT please your God. If your God wants you to be happy in this life, he’ll want you to have a positive attitude in this life too. Life is enough of a struggle already, don’t let yourself suffer more lol.
