What do I do with my stepmom's cremation ashes?

My husband’s stepmom died several years ago and per her direction she was cremated. We have kept her ashes but she did not give direction about what to do with them. We would like to dispose of them in a respectful and appropriate manner. She was a practicing Catholic, so I suggested that “hallowed ground” such as a cemetary or church would make the most sense. What would you suggest for us to address this issue?
