tonight, i am becoming a member of the church at the easter vigil. here is my problem though…the husband and i got into a HUGE argument last night, complete with name calling and all sorts of mean words thrown back and forth…we apologized this morning and everything is fine…the problem is that i am worried about taking my first communion…do i need to go to confession for this? my husband doesnt get off work until confession times are over.

From the CCC:
If anger reaches the point of a deliberate desire to kill or seriously wound a neighbor, it is gravely against charity; it is a mortal sin (CCC 2302)
It would seem that unless you had the intention of physically hurting or injuring your husband, it is not mortal. So you are okay to receive. However, I would bring that to confession when you can, and soon.

Confess your sins to Jesus. Tell Him you wish to be in a state of grace when you receive Him for the first time. Tell your husband you are sorry. Ask your husband to forgive you. You forgive him, too. Go forward with faith and humility. Congratulations. Welcome Home.

thank you all so much!
i did apologize and of course i would never want anything to happen to him…we are just having issues with an older child and of course acted like children ourselves.
wonderful then! i was/already nervous about tonight and this was weighing heavily on me.
thanks again!

Don’t worry! You are sorry, so Jesus has already forgiven you. Getting in a verbal fight is not a mortal sin.

Congratulations!!! Have a wonderful, blessed entrance into the Church tonight!:extrahappy:

If you said curse words or took the Lord’s name in vane then it is grave matter. Did you know it was grave matter when you did it? If you were incredibly angry then it might not have been full consent of will though.
