I have the honor of going to a papal function during the Pope’s visit to the U.S. I know what I have to wear but I just need to know if it is okay to wear a nice black hat instead of a traditional veil or mantilla.
Unless you’ve been told by ecclesial authorities not to wear a hat, there is nothing wrong with a woman wearing a hat instead of a veil or mantilla. In fact, back when women ordinarily covered their heads in church, many women in the U.S. wore hats instead of veils and mantillas.
