What do I do if I can not find Godparents suitable for my child’s baptism? We do not know many Catholics and the ones we do know are non practicing.

Hey, I’d be mighty happy to zip over from NY to witness. I’m sure a bunch of us would be happy to do the honors! 🙂

Actually, how about anyone from your parish?
God bless and lead you in this important decision.

That’s a good suggestion from jrabs. You could also look into the possibility of having one godparent from your parish and having witnesses (Christian, not Catholic) as well, provided the witnesses were comfortable with furthering your child’s Catholicism. This is a good way of helping a good friend or family member not only be “involved” in the baptism but also getting them to learn about the faith!

Dave, I noticed you are from the Diocese of Youngstown. Me too! I don’t know which parish you belong to, but if it’s a good one, they probably have resources for you. Did you get married in the Church? Did you have a sponsor couple? Perhaps they would be a good choice. Or if you ask your priest, he may be able to give you other ideas. I’d offer to help, but you don’t know me from Adam! 🙂 How old is your baby? Or is it not born yet and you are planning ahead? Sorry I asked so many questions! :o You must think I’m pretty nosy!! Well, God Bless and Good luck!!

I’ll drive out and there you have it Dave, Jrabs and I volunteer to be the Godparents. (believe it or not, we are not kidding - we’d do it for you).

Yep. And a bunch more of us too - I reckon. I LOVE a good drive to a Baptism. Can’t think of a better reason for a drive.

OK, then both of you plan on making a trip up to Wisconsin after that, as my husband and I are having the same problem as Dizzy Dave! 😃

I find myself facing a similar problem. I am going to be confirmed this year, and we don’t have anyone to ask for a sponsor. I can’t really even think of anyone in the parish to ask. I do have a good name though - John. I’m also wondering if I can ask people to call me by that name rather than Adam, or if I can just tell people it’s my name. Any advice on either subject?

John Adam, all kidding aside, ask Jrabs to be your sponsor. She lives near you and, if your read her last 1,600+ posting, you would find out that she is a really decent person and a good Catholic and Christian lady. I wish I lived closet to you too. May God continue to bless you.

Chicago is almost Wisconsin except you guys know how to play football 😃 .If you need me, I’ll be there, just PM or e-mail me.

:blessyou: Thank you both for your kindness. It is nice to know that there are people like you out there that are willing to help a Catholic couple out. Please keep us in your prayers.

Good Luck!!! I completely understand.

Although I thought of a family today that is Catholic. Although I am still trying to figure out how to go about asking someone that question. But they are great people.
