What do we call the conception of Jesus?

I understand that Mary’s conception is referred to as the Immaculate Conception, but what is Jesus’ conception referred to?

I don’t know if there is a fixed term for Jesus’s conception. I have heard priests use the term “miraculous conception.” I think a lot of times people skip his conception and just refer to the “virgin birth.”

A lot of non-Catholics get confused by this and they think that the Immaculate Conception refers to the conception of Jesus in Mary’s womb. I have even heard of a Protestant church that was called “Immaculate Conception”!

The definition of annunciation in the dictionary -1 the act of announcing or being announced or definition 2 March 25 observed as a church festival in commemoration of the announcement of the Incarnation to the Virgin Mary.

Annunciation is the announcement of the conception. Not the conception itself.

As others already stated it would be Incarnation to refer to the conception of Jesus .

Strictly the physical conception of Jesus is the Incarnation, since the incarnation is when God the Word became man in the Virgin’s womb, permanently taking His flesh and human nature from Mary.

However the day on which this is celebrated is the Annunciation. This is when Mary was told God’s will, she accepted, and the Incarnation took place. The Annunciation is March 25th (In England called Lady Day), nine months before Christmas.

In the Middle Ages March 25th was New Year’s Day, since this was the day one of year one. when Jesus became man. This is why Financial years still start around the end of March.

Sometimes one reads that both Mary and Jesus were “immaculately conceived.”

I never liked this kind of analysis. Technically, their conceptions, vis a vis the stain of Original Sin, were different.

Mary was saved from Original Sin by a special application of the grace of the cross to her conception.

I don’t think that Jesus was saved from Original Sin by the same kind of application of the grace of the cross.

Unfortunately a lot of Catholics also think that this refers to Jesus’ birth.
