I was talking to someone yesterday and they said a sexual joke kind of making fun of someone. He was staring straight at me so I just kinda laughed for a second because I wasn’t sure what else to do. If I just turned away he might think i was being mean. Is this a mortal sin that I laughed at this? I tend to worry that things are mortal sins that are not so I was just asking. Thanks.

I’m sure glad I do not have to confess all my thoughts and actions… and I think the priest would be too actually.

honestly I do think that a lot of you guys worry far too much on this sin business. Just laugh at the joke, say a joke back and move on. No big deal. You got stared at because he wanted you to react as a straight tight lipped RC. I am not saying this disprectfully but lots of you post about things that actually I wonder whether you all realise what you are really doing. Too much worry about the content of the sin. Offer it to God and peace be with you. Anything that is eating up your soul and faith too much then take it to confession. Otherwise, have fun. God wants us to have fun too. We can be too focused on our sins. Live a little. Thank God I didn’t have to confess all my sins on the altar this morning though the priest is more than aware by pure chance but that co-incidental as it happens.

Is it possible that Roman Catholics can live a day without worrying about sin? If we are big enough to sin then we are big enough to say sorry. If you not sure if its a sin then say sorry to God anyways then its done with.👍

Sin is no light matter. I would rather be worrying too much about sin than not enough.

That being said, I agree that we shouldn’t worry about it so much that we are afraid to live. I just caution against moving to the other extreme where we are not afraid to sin.

To the OP: I doubt you were able to meet the 3 criteria for a mortal sin in that short awkward moment, but if you cant get it off of your mind confession is never a bad option.
