Since I am asking in a Traditionalist forum, I am asking about traditional uses for the palms. I grew up in a household where my mother would break them and make little crosses with them. Sometimes I see people use them as bookmarks for their Bibles. It never seemed right to me to hang them from my rearview mirror, but some people people do it as soon as they get them.

What does one do with the palms distributed on The Second Sunday of the Passion?

I put mine behind my crucifix on my bedroom wall.

I fold mine into a cross. If done carefully, it doesn’t break (as long as it hasn’t dried out yet)

I have seen the crosses made out of the palms. I do not know how to make one. Do you know if there is anything on the web that tells how to make one? I know it is too late to do this year, but I would like to make one in the future.

Is it ok if it breaks? My mom used to cut and break them to make little crosses. She would hang them up all over the house.

Last year mine got too dry before I got around to making a cross. I rolled it in a wet towel and left it for a day, and it worked fine.

I form them into a cross. I have last years, it sits on a shelf, and this years is hung over my door. They’ve also been burned during storms in prayer, and I believe there’s some connection to St. Barbara but I can’t recall now.

This site will tell you how to make a cross from the palms. Scroll down to the bottom.

There are several different ways to fold palm crosses. Try google-ing “how to fold palm cross” and then pick the one that seems the easiest to you!
