I long since read the Tao Te Ching in a monastery I visited, and wondered what the the churches standing on The Tao Te Ching?

I think it’s great. If you think how massive the event we trust ourselves to is- that of the almighty God entering his own creation, it seems perfectly reasonable that this would have echoes all throughout human experience.

A great book on this sort of thing is Truth and Tolerance by Joseph Ratzinger before he became Pope Benedict XVI!

The Dao is merely a practical guide. Notice that it has very little exposition of heaven or gods, primarily because Lao Tse (traditionally held to be the author) knew little about those things.

He showed how the world worked, and advocated a willingness to go with nature make one’s life satifying and moral.

There are lessons to be taken from it, and I still read it now and then, but a Christian is called to a higher purpose than nature.
