What do you think it means when people list their religion as "other" on Facebook?

I can not possibly speculate upon the many reasons a person would choose to pick other.
It is amazing that speculation continues on in this thread, even with many well thought out speculations.
What any one person here thinks about this subject can not in any way benefit anyone.
 
Who knows? I can think of many reasons why I would want to do it.

Privacy
Security
Smaller PII footprint on the internet
Less ability to narrow down a location

None of these have anything to do with religious motives; they’re just practical reasons for not volunteering the information.

Right, they could have reasons like that, or several others. If they want to share info about their religion with me, they will. If they don’t want to, that’s their right.

Personally, I’m very open about my religious and political beliefs on FB… but I don’t use my real name. Privacy and security, as you said, just a slightly different approach.
