Recently my granddaughter and her classmate placed in a Science Fair at their Catholic School, which qualified them to go on in competition within their Diocese…

Now they are told that they can’t because their project was not allowed…. The teacher in charge failed to read the rules thoroughly….

These 12 year olds are devastated!!!

The principal has apologized and has tried everything to get the diocese to reconsider…. It can’t because it would go against state regulations (things ingested or inhaled)…. My problem is that the teacher has not apologized to these children… and, the girls aren’t even allowed to go just to observe!!!😦

Am I wrong in thinking that something isn’t right here?

…obviously the teacher has dropped the ball on proper maners (apologizing to the girls) as well as being a poor example of a teacher (learn to read and follow directions…)

oh, by the way, what was their project?

My thoughts exactly.😦
Having to do w/ inhaling/smelling something.

It’s a shame that your granddaughter has been disappointed twice–once, in not being able to compete as she should have been able, and once, in her teacher’s not having the common courtesy to acknowledge culpability in the original faux-pas with directions AND giving the children the apology that justice demands of her.

Sadly, some people are so shallow, petty, and egotistical that they cannot see their own responsibilities or “suffer” for their own failures, but rather insist on existing in their own little selfish bubbles, accountable to none, responsible for nothing.

At the least, this teacher should have a written CENSURE of her behavior placed in her personnel file, particularly if she continues in her current “no apology needed” mode. Refusal to renew her contract when it comes up would also be justified IMO. Not only did she not “practice what she preached” in the classroom by not exercising due care and diligence re the directions, as a role model for children to treat others with human dignity and consideration she has fallen far short of even the minimum standard of our secular society.

I hope that your granddaughter will not let this teacher’s poor actions impact her own. We have to learn to deal with disappointments and with unfairness in life, after all. Far better that she resolve that she continue utilizing her obvious scientific gifts EVEN MORE because of this setback. I will keep her, and you, in my prayers.

Thanks for your thoughts they help confirm what I was thinking.
My granddaughter is a rare young lady…much nicer than I…:o She has already forgiven and is planning her next project, she does admit to being very sad… She called me when she found out and just cried and cried and cried… I gave her all the reasons ‘when life hands us lemons’… ‘God doesn’t permit an evil unless He is going to draw a greater good’… We are all trying to handle this w/ charity…hard…
A similar thing happened to me as a CCD teacher…
Parishes got together for Religion Bee and each parish had T-Shirts…mine never got ordered…though I placed the order, the person in charge never got my e-mail because he was away on vacation. I felt terrible for the students and I told them that their shirts accidently were not ordered …
I ordered them w/ my own money, as I felt the responsibility.
