Being Catholic means I try and look at Christ and the meaning of universal. It means if I call myself Catholic, then I must act like a Catholic. To me that means I must forgive in order to be forgiven. I must hold onto Faith, Hope and I must Love. It means I must try and be like Christ in order to draw others to him. It means I teach by example, be a witness, be a good samaritan when I can, not judge lest I be judged, believe in the healing power of Christ, trust Christ will get me through my tribulations, know I am not better then another, learn to follow the will of God even if I don’t understand or am unsure of where he is leading me, understand my responsibility as a mother to teach my children the Catholic faith as best I can, be prepared to be humbled at times, go to Church each week, try and be a Catholic outside of mass, trust in Him, believe in prayer, love like he loves, hope that the Catholic Education system shakes itself up a bit and stops bowing down at times to those who wish to minimise the faith in our children’s education, be prepared to pray for others, pray for the Holy Spirit to pour on those who need some serious assistance to come to the light. It means trying to be obedient, which can be hard at times.
As a Catholic I have realised there is intelligence and their is wisdom. The most academic need not necessarily be the wise. That the teacher must also become the student. My children sometimes come out with the most simple yet wisest words, so I figure being a Catholic is to become like a child at times, sometimes when I do that I see more truth.
As a mother I see our children as our focus, and that means I try and not stiffle their innocence because that innocence is more open to God and his awesomeness. Doubt has no place in my role as a Catholic mother, because through doubt we can stop believing, through doubt we can bring another down, through doubt we can open the door to Satan to meddle, through doubt we can hold ourselves back. So being a Catholic means I believe and am prepared to believe more and constantly learn and change and grow with Christ and towards Christ and ensure my children do the same, however sometimes I wonder who is the teacher, because they seem to teach me more.
Being Catholic means becoming the true Church in myself and as a Catholic there is no room for pride. So I must aim for humility constantly, because pride in the Church irks me a lot.
What does being a Catholic mean to me? I am not sure, as the meaning of Catholic to me evolves all the time. I figure to be Catholic is to constantly grow. One can go to mass everyday but that does not make them a Catholic inside themselves. Being Catholic is to be like Christ, to shed the darkness and become light, to assist others to do the same and assist others to walk in the light, to be a light that draws others to Christ and the Catholic Faith, to know the Holy Spirit and the Father as well as the Son, to allow the Son to draw us to the Father. I miss the Father.
After all my ramblings I am thinking that being a Catholic means I got a chance to come home to my real Father in Heaven. So it means a lot. Only problem is I am not a brave Catholic.
