Recently my friend suggested me to Consecrate myself to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It starts the day after tomorrow for 33 days ending with the Feast of Annunciation. There are prayers during these days and on the 34th day, one consecrates to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. What exactly does consecrating oneself to Mary mean? And is there any articles or content I can read to prepare myself?

Marian consecration means you give yourself, your prayers, all you have etc to Mary so she can apply them as God wills. It is understood as a way of being closer to both Mary and Jesus. I would not suggest anyone do it without fully understanding what it is.

Regarding books, there are two books typically used for it. The easier one to read is “33 Days to Morning Glory” by Fr. Michael Gaitley.

Some people also use “True Devotion to Mary” by St. Louis de Montfort. That one is a little more difficult and I would tend to recommend that if you’re new to the idea of Marian consecration, you read Fr. Gaitley’s book instead. He discusses and explains St. Louis de Montfort in his book, along with some other saints devoted to Mary.

Don’t feel bad if you don’t feel ready to do this consecration right now. It took me a year to decide to do my own.

I had a desire to start it day after. So you suggest I learn thoroughly before doing it?

No, if you want to start it now, by all means do so.
Some people are more apprehensive about it.
If you arent, that’s great - Mary will welcome you with her arms open.

Once you do it, it’s recommended that you renew it each year by doing the 33-day or 9-day program over again.
I have found it beneficial.
