What does it mean to attend both forms of the mass out of obedience and love for the Church?

It may not be the form per se but maybe the guitars or EMHCs or amplification which one cannot tolerate. I’ve seen people travel to different parishes simply because they don’t like the priest or congregation at their own parish.

I don’t disagree and am guilty of the very thing. I have a Mass literally around the corner from my house that I could walk to, instead of driving 5 miles to the parish I grew up in. I do so because I prefer the music & the preaching at that parish.

That is not what I am talking about, though.

The only time I personally would get concerned would be when I started to not go to a Mass just because it is not the form I prefer. If I was a daily Mass attendee for years and then found an affinity for the EF, and stopped attending daily Mass because I don’t like the form, you bet your boots I would bring this to my spiritual director.

I am not saying that having preferences is wrong. We all have them, it’s part of being human. What I am trying to say, is that for me, I have to be very careful about my motivations, and I offer my comments on this matter in that spirit.
