So I was talking to a few people at lunch today, there is a hospital around here, St Elizabeth, they have been around for decades, but about 10-12 yrs ago, they started taking over smaller care providers, and I heard today, a local family, suing St E. over the death of a family member with Alzheimers, protocol was not followed in his care apparently, but the family could not find a lawyer in the entire area willing to take the case, they all claimed it would be career suicide to go up against such a powerful entity (St E.) They eventually hired a team of lawyers from southern KY, out of the reach of St E.

I also remember reading an article couple years ago, St E. tried to get this particular private practice doctor to join them and be their pain mgt doctor, but he refused and St E. basically threatened to run him out of business for denying them.

St Elizabeth has really grown in the last few years in this area, they have locations all over the region and are only trying to get more. It seems they desire to be the only medical services provider!

This does not seem like what a catholic hospital should be like imo, they seem to be more like a ruthless corporation, out to take over as much ‘land’ as possible.

Sounds like you are talking about St. Elizabeth’s hospital in No. Ky. As for your general question about what is a Catholic Hospital…it all depends. some Catholic Hospitals should remove the word Catholic from their name as they no longer are run by people of faith, bu t by a board of directors as lots of other big businesses and no longer uphold all Catholic teachings about abortion, for example. As for no one in the area taking the case for a lawsuit, there must not be enough evidence that the case could be won, therefore another law firm far away and probably desperate for some business took the case is my guess. Catholics actually started all the hospitals in the US. Plus orphanages and education for all, especially minorities.👍

There is a Catholic hospital not too far from where I live. My mom used to work there. The hospital, at one time, was run entirely by nuns in a convent. And while there are still nuns who work there, most of the power is in the hands of business executives, like any other private hospital. Every room has a crucifix in it, which is a nice touch.

The sisters who founded most of these hospital still are present on the board of directors and each Catholic hospital is under the authority of the local bishop for its Catholic identity.

Many hospitals were founded by Catholics but were eventually secularized.

When I was a kid a parish baseball team in my area basically did a trick and cut people they said were already on the team. In two purposes, 1. The “2nd” or “B” team came in second place to the A team in the league and almost outook the A team. The kids on the team were told at the next set of tryouts they were already on the team and just practicing and only new replacements were trying out. Of course a group of kids with no resson to show their stuff and hadn’t seen eachother goofed around a bit while veteram style evaluating their future possible teamates.

The parish team cut most of the team that was already on the team…

Parents called all the way to the priest and were told to suck it up because tough noogies, “we do what we want”

Now in this you can see the worldly motives and the fact tht that nothing here was an infallible church teaching.

The truth is humans suck, some humans are catholic, some carholic humans get to be in charge of some stuff. Life.
