What does it mean to become a parishiner of the Catholic Church?

My husband and I are both Catholic. However, we haven’t attended Church in MANY years. We have two babies now and would like to start introducing them to the faith. The problem is that we recently moved to a new state and aren’t sure how to approach a new Catholic Church. Can someone help please? Are there any procedures I need to take before becoming a member?

At my parish its just a matter of going to the church office and filling out a card.

At my parish, those interested in becoming members are invited to an orientation meeting to get know the parish. Periodically we have a public welcoming ceromony during Mass.

Assuming that you both were baptized, did first penance and first communion before stopping going to church, it would be a good idea to find the parish near you, go to confession, attend Mass on Sunday, receive communion if you have been to confession. At any time during this process you stop at the parish office and register, you will become parishioners. I would assume your children may not be Baptized so ask about that at the parish office while you are signing up. It is not complicated at all and we will love having you and your family back.
