What does it mean to believe in the name of the only Son of God

John 3:18 says that whoever believes in the name of the only Son of God is saved from condemnation. Does that mean that I am saved by merely believing that Jesus was the Son of God? Or does my salvation require more? Does belief require obedience to the Lord?

When it comes to faith, believing is not just intellectual acknowledgement. That may be a first step for some people, but it also involves obedience. One example is Mark 16:16 “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved”. Baptism also requires repentance for sins committed (Acts 2:38). There are many other examples. On the flip side, if you do certain things, regardless of whether you believe or not, you will not enter heaven unless you repent (Galatians 5:20-21).

Already believing in the name of Jesus also includes, repentance of sins, baptism, and a moral life in obedience.
