What does Palm Sunday mean to you?

It reminds me of how selfish we can be with our fallen human nature. Those who welcomed our Lord as their savior and king one week stood later that week and called out for His crucifixion, they denied Him and one even turned Him in to the authorities for a bag full of silver coins. Some walked away from Him never to return, others returned, and repented, once the Graces of His Passion became real to the world.

It makes me think of how and when I may have walked away, be it something that seemed insignificant of a major rejection of His Grace. It reminds me that I hope to remain faithful as only one person was, our Blessed Lady, never loosing Faith in Christ Jesus and His mission to bring redemption to us.

It means “duck before you get poked in the eye”. And to the priest it means that everyone will be busy making palm crosses and not listen very much to everything else.

Thank you for that beautiful post. I was thinking of that, but couldn’t have said it better.

Dorothy, I was all set to say the same. I think I will ponder all of the times when I promised Our Lord that even if everyone left Him, I would not, and then proceeded to run away at the first stumbling block I encountered, or the first biased media report I read. :o

I got poked in the eye this morning, not 10 minutes in.

In the Byzantine Catholic Church, we use ***** willows as well as palms. I gave all 5 kids the same lecture I give every year: “***** willows and palms are not swords. If I see you using them as swords, I will take them away.” For the first time every, nobody used them as swords, but I still got poked in the eye by a ***** willow.

It seems that our traditional Palm Sunday plant is unacceptable on Catholic Answers forums and a moderator cleaned it up for me. Sorry. 🤷 I thought nothing of it. Here is a picture of the tradition, but apparently forbidden-to-name plant that we use in the Byzantine Churches of Slavic origin:

It must be an automated thing, as it removed the “offensive” word from the link to the picture. This is the plant to which I refer.

Flowers from the trees of the genus Salix. It really frustrates me when our culture co-opts a perfectly acceptable word and makes it vulgar.
