What does Satan want with our souls?

Satan is the ultimate nihilist/anarchist. He seeks to simply destroy and disrupt.

Nothing, Satan could care less for our souls. His battle is with God and we just pawns on the chessboard. The goal for him isnt to gain our souls but to take them from our Father.

Most of the posts so far paint Satan as a moody idiot. I believe he was gifted with much knowledge and maturity. For whatever reason, I believe both God and Satan are congruent in their wishes for our world to survive. This is consistent with most of Judaism. How can Satan possibly truly oppose God without being destroyed? Indeed, our world is being elevated all the time. Does anything exist besides God? No.

“moody idiot” I dont see that anywhere in the postings above. Quite contrary, He pulled angels from God with his guile and continues to deceive and outwit countless humans. His intelligence is frightening because he can make the most intelligent and genius minded step away from God.

YES, this fact alone, imo, has always intrigued me, I think there is MUCH more to the story than we know.

If an angel (no matter how powerful they are) is able to convince 1/3 of the other angels he is correct and to follow him…well, there is information/ facts about God, Heaven, Satan, etc. we do not know about, its that simple.

I am a worthless sinner. I know exactly what a drunkard wants, what a gambler wants, an adulterer, a murderer, a rapist, a politician ;), larcenist, and so on. There’s no fancy story, just the ugly reality of sin, played over and over and over in history, and daily in the media. Fact is that regardless of the individual intent and act, it all falls in accordance with God’s will. Try as he might to do otherwise, Satan has brought to mankind the truth of God’s love and the means to our salvation.

Moody because of his hatred, and an idiot because he knows that he is going lose in the end. I personally do not see Satan as an irrational power in the here and now.

Yes, but he would have known he was going to loose before he even rebelled in the first place though, he is said to be the most intelligent angel…???

Even the most ignorant human being, if they knew for a fact they were going to be caught and go to jail if they robbed that bank…NO ONE would do it…they all do it though, because they all think they are going to be the ones that fall thru the cracks and get away with it…there is huge difference in our intelligence and Satans intelligence.

I really think there is much more to the ‘fall of satan’ story, I dont think our human minds could comprehend it.

It’s called PRIDE and NARCISSISM = satan = disgusting moron.

If all of this is real, very clearly Satan seeks to give us freedom from God and the slavery in which we find ourselves.

Satan doesn’t seek anyone’s freedom. He prowls about like a lion seeking the destruction of souls. God is perfect goodness and seeks our ultimate good. He offers our souls true life. But when we commit evil it harms our own soul. This is why Satan uses vices to trap us. Because they corrupt our souls. Whereas virtue uplifts the soul. Even Socrates knew this. Good is better than evil, virtue better than vice. Anyone who encourages you to vice seeks the ruin of your soul.

The word satan simply means one who opposes the will of God. We see the use of this word during the rebuilding of the temple. The prophet Ezra calls the people who are opposing the rebuilding of the temple the shaton, which is where we get the word satan from. And it is also why Jesus calls Peter a satan because he was opposing the will of God when he tried to convince Jesus not to be crucified.

Yep, we should always walk away, but unfortunately we don’t always do. Misery loves company though.
