Hi there,
It is said that Jonah ran away from “the presence of the Lord”.
Jonah “knew” he was called, yet he decided to do what is “contrary to what he believe” (thus “run away from the God’s presence”)
But if you do not know whether God is calling you, then you decide not to enroll seminary, then you are not running away.
Instead, you keep searching for His will, think carefully about it, ask for His signs. These signs are the ones you will remember many years later when the going is tough : you will still be sure that you did not make wrong decision. But if God’s prompting is not there, nor His signs, then you act according to your own fears, you are not responding to what God calls you for, but only following your own fears, just similar to Jonah who only follow his own fears.
One has to be free from fears before he can truly follow God. Because those who act according to fears are slaves, they do not know their Master’s affairs (read: God’s secrets), because the Master only share those affairs (secrets) with His friends (John 15:15). Moreover God does not only call us friends, but children. His children does not do things out of fear anymore, but out of love. And to love God, they must know that God has love them first (1 John 4:19). This knowledge of God’s love will free them from accusations and condemnations and frears (1John 4:18).
Only then that they will know God’s will.
John 14
Regarding obedience : it is obedience of faith . If you believe you are called, then go ahead. But if you are not, why are you so affraid of condemnations?
Sure christians are free to deny this faith : That God is not a control freak who ask us blind obedience out of dictator power. He is our Father. If you do not believe this, you deny God’s Faithfulness. Thus you are not obedient to what God ask you to believe.
If you are obedient, then-- despite of anything-- trust Him.
God bless you all
