The makeup of the church is changing. The church is growing in Africa and Asia especially. It’s already shrunk substantially in Europe.

The church, which has been rooted in Western European ways and worldviews is going to seem less and less reasonable to who the church is becoming.

Do you agree? How will the changes in church membership affect the church? Please be specific if you can.

How so?
How will the changes in church membership affect the church?
Besides its make up and maybe regional traditions, it will not change at all. This is the universal Catholic Church, who accomidates the traditions of different cultures without surrendering her identity or teachings.

The Church will not change. The trappings (appearance) of the Church may change, and have changed repeatedly throughout history. That has no impact on the teaching or the Truth of the Church, which has not and will not change.

The historical influence of excessive freedoms and individualism in the West are why some Western bishops lean to supporting new sexual ethics. In Africa and Asian this is much much less the case.

I’m going to assume that those new sexual ethics being suggested include things like blessing “same-sex unions”, allowing contraception, etc. All of which are against the doctrines of the Church.

Those bishops are wrong, plain and simple. Nothing they do or say can change that, and no amount of them ignoring Church teaching can change that teaching.

I don’t think this will change the Church at all… except that there will be more Africans and Asians and less Western Europeans. Pretty simple.

I don’t think much will change. We may get away from the scholastic tradition but it won’t disappear obviously. Or, they will adopt this philosophy. Time will tell.
