I have heard it said many times here of late that we are only to fast Monday - Saturday during lent and that on Sundays we don’t need to follow our Lenten fast because Sundays are a day of celebration. Just needed clarification on the idea of fasting on all days during lent except on Sundays. If this is true can someone please direct me to the church teaching regarding fasting during lent that says it’s ok to skip fasting on Sundays? I don’t want to hear about some priest saying that it is ok. I want to see the teaching that says it. Can someone please show me anywhere in scripture that this idea is accepted or taught? To me it seems like this just popped up in the last 20 years or so… Never was this taught to me growing up. Not that this make it true but I never even heard of this idea until here recently. I have a hard time believing that Jesus went into the desert for 6 days of fasting, then came back and loaded up on food and drink on the Sabbath then went back for another 6 days etc… It seems to me that this is a result of a lazy society that is looking for any way to get out fasting/prayer etc…
I look forward to some clarification.
