Consider what is being conveyed.
Is the Word of God attempting to get us a glimpse into the intimate life of the Virgin and Joseph or is it demonstrating that Jesus was the Son of God because His Conception was brought about through the Power of the Holy Spirit?
If it is the latter, then what bearings would it have to make it known that the Virgin and Joseph coupled after Jesus’ birth?
Since it is the latter, it goes to demonstrate that the prophecy God made came through:

As a matter of fact, the above passage also demonstrates how man will jump to any interpretation of Revealed Scriptures as some would obstinately argue that the Evangelist is taking liberties in translating and understanding this passage as a “virgin” conceiving a child… some would argue that the word simply means a maiden/young woman not a virgin. Yet, they have narrowed their minds in order to understand only that which is their preconception since it would be a poor sign that God would give if all that it meant was a “young” woman conceiving and giving birth–don’t young girls conceive and give birth all over the world?
