What drives our will? How do we will something?

It is impossible to understand how we will to do something because we are made in the image of God and share His creative power of making our own choices and decisions.
 
We are created in the image of God who creates and wills independently. Our power is derived from Him…
 
Biological needs, hunger, thirst, need for rest and sleep, so we choose to eat, drink, rest.
We need to understand things so we decide to ask questions and do research.
If we are only really concerned about ourselves as we only have our own personal consciousness, then the choices of our will are selfish.
If we use our understanding of what hurts or what pleases us, then we choose (or will, if you like) to do for other people those things for other people.
Nobody made you ask this question, or caused you to will your fingers and understanding of how to use a computer and post your question here, but you willed to, so you did.
From the time you were an infant you chose to learn how to do things, because it brought rewards, crawling, walking, feeding yourself instead of having your mother feed you for the rest of your life.

You choose (or will) to be a Christian because you have learned Christianity has truth, and like everything else you’ve learned, it requires a choice (which involves your will or nothing would be begun or achieved) and your will to bring the choice to .action.
You have the Sacraments, the commandments, the Catechism, Canon law, the gospels, to clarify to you what is God’s will for your life, which is to use your talents, to love God above all and others as you love yourself. God’s will for your life is contained in those, and you can will to obey or not.
The basic question for your will, is do you love, or not:
are you only about yourself, or also about God and other people.
 
What a question! Not a bad one but impossible to answer,maybe a doctor could say something but I doubt. Why do we feel hunger? Why do we want a new shirt? Why is it important to say something? Why do we love? Why can’t we stop smoking,drinking or eating to much? Why is water wet? I don’t think God has much to do with what we want,but we ofter turn to Him with a “please may I…prayer”. In most cases it come from a real need,like hunger,and that we can explain. The body tell us that we need food,not always what we end up eating but still. Why do I need a cigarette? Because the level of nicotine in my system is low. Why do I need water? Because my body tell me that I need fluid. But why do I want a let say new shirt? If I don’t have a shirt it is easy to answer but because I have many I can think of only one answer,I like the one in the shop. But why do I like it? Maybe my brain give some “hint” that red look good on me. But why? I don’t know. Science can answer almost every question except those like where do we come from,where do we go (heaven I hope) and why are we here,but not every question. We want more then we need,that I know. I like the blue color,why I don’t know,all I know that some professor somewhere did find out that blue color has a calming effect on us. Maybe the same apply with other needs. It gives us something we need but don’t understand why. A human is a “system” that need water,food and air to “work”. But maybe it also need more. Maybe we all have a special need for something that the “system” must have to work properly. But there might be more to it. Our need for things may go much deeper. When I was a kid I had this pillow of mine. It was small and not to thick but I could not (or so I thought) sleep without it. When we moved from one place to another I was six and the last night in the old town we did sleep in a hotel and for some reason my pillow was forgotten. Next night I could not sleep. OK,it was found and all was well. So I did need it to sleep,or rather,to feel safe so that I could sleep. That might be one explanation. Need something to feel safe. I had a dog who had this yellow rubber chicken of hers and she never did play with it. She just needed it when night came. So animals have needs to. My best guess is that all we need are something to fill a void space in our “system” like we need food and water. Maybe the need to love,laugh,cry,sometimes to let us say run or play soccer is a thing the “system” need. I can’t do better then this. Could someone explain to me why water is wet?
