Hello,

I am new to this forum.
I looked to see if this had been addressed already and it probably has, but I couldn’t find it.

I was at mass today and when I went up to receive Holy Communion the EM said “Receive the Body of Christ”. in this breathy whisper that kind of bothered me…and it threw me off because to say ‘amen’ after her saying that would not be grammatically correct, tho’ ‘thankyou’ would. It just felt all wrong.

But I know you are supposed to say "Amen’.

I asked the priest afterward, and he was very brusque with me, and actually told me I was making a big deal out of nothing.

I don’t think it’s a big deal.

If I wanted to be protestant I would be, but I don’t…I am catholic because I truly do believe in the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist, …not because of all the ‘friendly’ people, and anything that detracts from that really really bothers me.
Even little things like this.

I simply thanked the priest and left, but I still wonder if I was correct, or if it really is no big deal.

Thanks for reading my rambling post.

LD.

Yes , I’m with you on this.

When , I was an EMHC , before I saw the light 😃 I had been taught that I was either to raise the Chalice so it was clearly at eye level , or hold the Host so it was also at eye level and say clearly and distinctly without haste , either

The Body of Christ
or
The Blood of Christ

depending on whether I had a Chalice or Ciborium ]

to the Communicant and wait for the response of Amen before actually giving them Communion

Correct - I have been an EMHC for over 20 years.

No one should (name removed by moderator)ut their own version of the rubrics

ie just say ‘the body of Christ’ or ‘the blood of Christ’ and nothing more or less
