What exactly does a Papal blessing mean?

I’m new to posting here, but I’ve been reading the forum and learning alot. I have a question.

My MIL went to Rome and bought me a crucifix necklace and had it blessed by Pope Benedict XIV at an audience. Of course I love it and haven’t taken it off since.

I’d don’t have an understanding of what that actually signifies? Can someone please explain what a Papal Blessing actually entails?

Thanks so much. Once I understand I know I’ll love my crucifix even more.
