What form of reverence, if any, do you do when passing a church?

I am interested to know what form of reverence you or your families might observe when walkin or driving past a Catholic church? In my family we make a small cross on our foreheads out of respect for Jesus in the tabernacle. Just wondering what others might do.

I bless myself as I pass a Church and tell God hello.
I also pray when I hear an ambulance, firetruck or lifeflight pass by. 🙂

This isn’t as reverent–but my van load of children and I shout out “Hi, Jesus in the Eucharist, We love you.” With lots of waving. I would love to learn the prayer traditionally sain as one passes a graveyard.

I make the sign of the cross.🙂
I had read that this is a lost custom that was common among the older generation of Catholics. I do it as well since I’m trying to revive the customs of being Catholic in our home!

I make the sign of the cross when passing a Catholic church and cemetery as well.🙂

I also make the sign of the cross and say “Hello, my Sweet Jesus! I love You!” With little kids, sometimes they would blow Jesus kisses!

I tip my hat, when I’m wearing one :tiphat: otherwise I make the sign of the cross

(I also admit I am not as strong in this habit as I could be)

I generally make the sign of the cross when I pass a Catholic Church, a cemetery and when a ambulances passes me.

I respond “My Lord and My God”. These are the words St. Thomas spoke after seeing the risen Christ.

John 20:28-29

Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and My God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”

We make the sign of the cross when passing a Catholic Church or cemetery. When we hear sirens, we say a Hail Mary and make the sign of the cross before and after.

I make the sign of the cross. Recently, I have added a quick prayer, basically thanking God for the grace that saves me and asking for the Holy Spirit’s guidance to keep my baptismal promises (particularly the rejection of evil) and my profession of faith high in my consciousness all the time. This started after I attended mass far from home while on vacation, and they baptised a baby during mass. It made me realize that I wasn’t focusing nearly enough on those basic beautiful themes.

Whenever i pass any Catholic church i make the sign of the cross 🙂

I have never actually thought about it! Is this perhaps why some people stand facing the tabernacle when they hear the church bells?

I make the sign of the cross when passing Churches, cemetaries, or emergency vechiles.

When my daughter was young, we would wave, blow kisses and say, “Hi, Jesus, we love You!” Now that she’s grown and gone, I just flash a smile and make a silent act of love. And when I see or hear an ambulance or fire truck or police car speeding by, I pray, “Lord have mercy on whoever needs it and guide the hands of those helping.”

I always do as my grandparents did, blessing themselves with a small cross on the forehead asa they passed a church or cemetary. I like to keep the tradition going as I don’t see it much anymore.

Whenever I remember to (which is not nearly often enough!), I pray the prayer St. Francis used when he passed a Catholic Church:

“We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you. For by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world”

Actually, St. Francis would lay prostrate on the ground when he said this, but I find it difficult to do that while driving!
