I’ve never been one but will try to go next week. What do you do at these things? Do you sit and contemplate?

Peace,

I am no authority only having begun adoration a year ago, but so far I have…
  1. Prayed directly to Jesus from my heart.
  2. Prayed the Rosary or other devotionals including some prayers written with adoration in mind.
  3. Read - some of the chapels have a small library nearby, so I’ve read the Bible, Threshold of Hope, Miracles of the Eucharist, The Rule of St. Benedict, etc.
  4. Sat/kneeled in silent adoration.
That was just the first hour 😃 . I’m kidding of course, but an hour can seem like a long time if it’s your first adoration experience.

If you check out the recent posts to the “Divine Office” thread, I just asked if it would be proper to pray the Daytime Prayer and Office of Readings during adoration. It looks like the answer is yes, so I’ll be doing that soon.

I was fortunate enough to have a chapel for perpetual adoration close by when I lived in Portland, so I was able to go there at 2:00AM when I was tossing and turning because of unconfessed sin. Spending time with Christ was very helpful.

Enjoy your time in adoration. Remember Jesus is present, so all joy and reverence you would feel if he were to knock on the door of your home is appropriate.

God bless,

Robert.

I love adoration! You can just go and pour your heart out to Jesus and He will comfort you. And you can do any of those things listed above. Jesus is there - He waits for us. It doesn’t matter what is on our minds, He is so comforting. You will love it, too!

I remember the first time I went. I was a college student, it was the week before finals and during Advent when everything is rushed. It was such a relief to rest in Christ- it brought to mind His promise to give rest to all who are weary and burdened. I just knelt for a while in prayer and then sat back in the pew and enjoyed the silence and rest.
